Hay Award

Superior Hay

Our hay has earned the prestigious honor of FIRST PLACE at the 2022 New York State Fair. This accolade is a testament to our commitment to regenerative farming practices, which ensure optimal soil health and deliver exceptional hay to our customers.

Our hay is comprised of a timothy/orchard grass mix and comes in round bales or small square bales, offering flexibility to suit your needs. We have 2023 first cutting and second cutting hay available.

Our small square bales, weighing approximately 40 pounds, are perfectly sized to feed horses, cows, goats, or sheep. Meanwhile, our round bales, approximately four feet by four feet and secured with twine, are a hassle-free option for pasture feeding.

Delicious Maple Syrup

Indulge in the delectable taste of our pure New York maple syrup, always in stock at our farm stand and also available for shipping!

The journey from sap to syrup is a hands-on process, with all the sap carefully collected from our own sugar bush on the property. Once gathered, it’s transported to our sap house, where the magic begins. Our mouth-watering syrup is boiled down using a traditional 2ft x 6ft Lapierre evaporator, skillfully fired with wood. This time-honored method adds a rich and distinctive flavor to the syrup, making it truly special.

To cater to your needs, we offer our premium syrup in various sizes. Choose from 250mL glass bottles, pints, quarts, and half gallons – all waiting for you to savor and enjoy. Whether you’re visiting our farm stand or ordering for delivery, you can experience the authentic taste of nature’s sweetness in every bottle. Don’t miss the opportunity to delight your taste buds with our pure New York maple syrup!

The Farm: History and Tradition

Family

The property was previously known as the Goodrich Dairy Farm. Dale Goodrich, born in 1943, grew up milking cows and producing syrup. After attending the Cornell Agriculture program, Dale returned to the family farm and took over for his father, in hopes of carrying on the family tradition. He became involved in various agricultural organizations. He was well-known and loved by many. Under his leadership, the farm received the prestigious 15-year Super Milk award.

Dale had no children but made a lasting impression on his nephew from California, Edward Geier. Edward, a military veteran and a graduate in Dairy Science, had long dreamed of continuing the farming legacy. Edward learned from Dale and officially assumed control of the farm in 2008 with the support of his wife Lori. He led the farm to earn the 20 and 25-year Super Milk awards before making the hard decision to sell the cows in 2019.

Today, the day-to-day operations of Sugar Hill Farm are managed by Ed Geier and Anna Rinaldo, representing the fifth generation to farm on the land. Ed is the only son of Lori and Edward Geier, and took over the farm in 2019 when the dairy cows were sold and the farm shifted to primarily crop production.

Some of Ed’s accomplishments include: starting the FFA program at Sherburne-Earlville, winning first place at NYS FFA maple competition 2 years in a row, and winning first place at the New York State Fair for first cutting small squares! He is also the secretary of the Sherburne Fire Department and an active member.

He shared his passion and taught Anna how to produce hay, maple syrup, and raise beef cattle. Anna quickly fell in love with the property and lifestyle. Today, you can find Ed and Anna in the tractor tending to hay fields and maple woods, restocking the farm stand, or in the gardens on the property.

At Sugar Hill Farm, we carry the legacy of our ancestors; nurturing the land and cultivating its bounty. Join us as we continue this tradition of hard work, dedication, and a profound connection to the land.

Welcome to Sugar Hill Farm, where the past meets the present, and the spirit of family lives on.

Sincerly,

Sugar Hill Farm Family
